Day 11 Kandy 6 August
Apologies to those of you that have seen our day 11 post, it appears to have published a draft, not the fabulous post with photos etc. I will try again....

Time for more refreshments and it couldn’t have been more timely. No sooner than we settle into our Lattes the heavens opened. It really poured for all of about 10 minutes, Leaving the sky blue again.

Tonight we re going for dinner at a vegetarian place that is in our street and we are continually walking it past.

Well that’s Kandy done and dusted tomorrow (Tuesday) we head for the tea plantations and the hills.
Today is a bit of a planned rest day in Kandy. There is nothing in the way of touristy things that we particularly want to see but rather we would like to walk around the streets, find the markets, talk to the people and drink tea and coffee.
We had a lovely walk around the lake , which pretty much is synonymous with Kandy. Most things revolve around it. It is a really pleasant walk, took about an hour or so at leisure. It was remarkably cooler than the heat we have become accustomed to.
Loads of fish in the lake, lots of ducks, tortoise and huge monitor lizards.

This afternoon our little man is taking us to some Kandyan dancing. It’s quite a drive to get there which was great to be able to see a bit more of the city.
The hall was packed with tourists like us and the dancing was interesting, I think......
The climax of the show was to be fire dancing and fire walking but I think the cast had lost interest by then. We all went outside tot he car park to watch the drummer pour petrol onto hot coals and run across. Reminded me of running across hot sand at home in summer.

The food (dosas) was fabulous although the process of eating with our right hand only slowed the whole eating thing right down. Not very delicate!
