Day 12 Kandy to Nuwara Eliya 7 August

Today we travelled to the hills. A few hours drive from Kandy, leaving in peak hour traffic, then into the country side before some 50k’s uphill. As we went up, the clouds came down; visibility less than 50m at times.

We visited the glenloch tea estate, where a lovely lady showed us around and how tea is made. The factory is very old and some of the machinery looks original!

We tried several teas: BOP ( or broken orange pekoe for those who are educated), green, white, and special “golden flush” tea. Also smelled flavoured teas: strawberry, orange, vanilla, ginger, earl grey, pineapple...hmmm.

Arrived in Nuwara Eliya it is cool and rainy. Such a wonderful change to the heat.
First things first, we stumble into a very cool market. It was great until it blacked out and all the generators came on. Cough cough...

Wandered around town: such a little England with clubs, golf course and horse racing. Even a new suburb!

We will stay home for dinner tonight, the driver has another early mark as he suffering with what appears to be tooth abscess, luckily he is still happy to pick us up very early for trip to Horton’s plains and the lookout at the end of the earth. Approximately a 10 ish km round trip.
In the afternoon and probably after a nap we plan to have High Tea at the Grand Hotel. Not sure our clothes will look the part but we will give it a go
