Day 13 Nuwara Eliya 8 August

Up before dawn, well before dawn. Alarms set for 0420. The little man picked us up at 0500 for probably one of the scariest Sri Lanka drives we’ve had.
Put together darkness, tiny, skinny roads, absolute fog , oh and rain up a mountain. Happy not to do that again.

Thankfully we made it and the first job is to go and queue for a ticket. It is so cold!!

Quickly back to the car for a 5 km drive into the park proper.

No chaos here!

The walk through this part of Horton’s plains national park is about 10-11 k and a very pleasant walk. Of course we couldn’t have an activity without uphill climbs and there were enough of those to make us puff .Key sights include worlds end, little worlds end.

On a good day you hike there early to see the lookout before the fog rolls in mid morning.unfortunatly today the fog is already there.

Below is view from little worlds end.

Another k or so and worlds end proper appears, or doesn’t in our case. Here we had Breaky and admire the view.

The trail after this breaks into open plains: beautiful. With the sanctuary of the trees gone the wind can extract its damage

Lastly Bakers falls comes into view, well after another 100 steps down then up!

Eventually saw some wild life when leaving

All round the trip took about 2 and a half hours. I’ll just pop a couple of photos of the last km or so.

Back to the car for the nail biting trip home and to have little rest.

Once we emerge again, the weather has become even worse and the rain is pretty consistent. We still want to have High Tea at the  fancy pants Grand Hotel, so we decide to arrive in style and grab a tuk tuk.

We had a lovely afternoon and the food was fab. We then had a wander around the hotel which really is lovely. First built in late 19th century and has had a few changes over the years.
