Day 5 Jaffna 31 July
Retired last night with no plans for today: we are such bohemian rebels! We would let the day run, with us along for the ride. Of course Liz woke early, wondering what to do...

We had thought that we had seen most, if not all, of what Jaffna it self had to offer. Had to be some more lanes to explore.for example: What about the markets? We found them on the map, so off we went. Right at the end of street, past hospital then the markets... first the hospital, with the queue outside the ED/outpatients, nurses with vails(who remembers them!).
Had a stuttering start to finding the markets, initially a few Veges on a mat with a corner FULL of bananas. This gradually led to the “modern” markets with what seemed like blocks devoted to tailors here, jewellery there, electronics up stairs with the occasional hair dresser thrown in. We almost stopped at a “cafe” in the markets, but before we could order the milky tea or coffee, we noticed the warm milk on the bench.or was it yoghurt by now ? I’ll leave that there.
Back on the street past numerous shops selling dried fish. Smelt much better than the lake in Colombo!
A bit further on to the fish and meat market; surprisingly “unsmelly”. Incredibly busy, with every person playing a part. Including a few birds inside to steal what they could and many more outside wishing they were brave enough to do the same. The few cows wandering outside were lucky they were Hindu.
By this stage it was very hot so we retired to the hotel to consider a swim, unfortunately the water was mildly cooler than a spa. We gave that a miss, into the air conditioned room to complete this blog for your knowledge and entertainment.
