Day 6 Jaffna to Anuradhapura 1 August
It is with a little trepidation that we walk the 100m back to the railway station, at least most of the track is new and not bone rattling. Still only 4 1/2 hours to Anuradhapura. We make our way into the first class carriage, it is mostly empty. We can wander seat to seat as we wish for the best views, the carriage attendant doesn’t seem to mind.

We arrived in Anuradhapura and luckily there was a helpful tuk tuk driver there to provide transport. We struck a deal to take us to our accommodation, which is a little out of town, and bring us back in after we drop our packs and check in, sorted

We get back into town with a few hours of day light left and set about sight seeing the Mahavihara area.
This contains the Sri Maha Bodhi ( a big oldest authenticated tree grown from a cutting from Bodhgaya),
Ruvanvelisaya Dagoba (some of Buddha’s ashes are contained here),
Lowamahapaya ( or brazen palace)
and the magnificent Basawak Kulama, A big Man made cistern ( or lake).
Pretty hot and tired by now we retired to our green palace hotel for home cooked dinner! Yum!
